Top 10 Ice Festivals in the World to Visit in 2025-2026
The Festival of Ice is celebrated in the winter months around the world. To get inspired this winter, we curated the list of the top 10 Ice sculpture festivals and winter festivals.
Harbin Ice Festival, China
Where: Harbin, China
When: December 25, 2025, to mid-February 2026 (varied opening dates for some exhibits)
Harbin Ice and Snow Festival is the world’s largest international Ice festival with artists displaying creations that leave you awestruck.
Starting in 1985, now around 15 million tourists visit it annually. It is held in the cold city of Harbin, China. Due to icy cold weather, the snow sculptures remain on display for over 2 months.
The festival coincides with major Chinese holidays, such as the New Year.
There are three main exhibitions at different venues with separate tickets:
- Ice and Snow World — exhibiting ice sculptures:
- Sun Island — exhibiting snow sculptures:
- Zhaolin Park — featuring ice lanterns — is expected to open in early January.
The Ice and Snow World has created massive ice structures, ranging from replicas of palaces to an entire city, using ice from the nearby Songhua River. The sculptures are illuminated in the night with vivid colors.
The magnificent snow sculptures are a marvel to the eye and a joy to watch during the day. Zhaolin Park is the venue for exhibiting illuminated ice lanterns and figures of characters to please the kids. This is a free exhibition.
Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival also features events such as ice skating, skiing, ice fishing, and more to enjoy.

Tips: Wear warm clothing to beat the chilly temperatures of -13°C, and take care of your phone, as the battery drains quickly in cold weather.
Ice Music Festival, Norway
Where: Bergsjøstølen, Ål, Norway
When: January 23, 2026, to January 24, 2026
This is a unique festival where artists craft their instruments from ice and play them to enthrall audiences from around the world.
Started back in 2006 with just one artist, it has grown leaps and bounds into an annual tradition followed by many. Now, a diverse group of artists, ice carvers, lighting crew, engineers, and many more volunteers presents a perfect meld of skill and passion.
Instruments like Ice harps, Ice drums, ice guitars, speakers, and many others are made and used by artists to perform.
In 2021, due to COVID, each artist had their own Igloo Homes. They had furnished it with their ice-carved instruments, and lightning, and held concerts for the audiences in their volatile home.
After reading about it and gazing at the pictures, this winter music festival has undoubtedly made a special place on my bucket list. How about you?

World Ice Art Championship, Fairbanks, Alaska
Where: Fairbanks, Alaska
When: 16 February 2026 to 21 February 2026
Ice Alaska is one of the World’s most significant and finest ice sculpture competitions and exhibitions. With the best artists from around the world coming together on one stage to showcase their magical skills, it is a must-visit.
The festival began in 1990 as a small competition with eight teams displaying their craft for 7 days. With 30 years of experience, it has grown manifold, now spanning 1 month and featuring around 100 artists. The festival attracts visitors from all across to witness this marvel.
There are many competitions spread over a month, both for Adults and youth, along with many activities for kids. It is impressive to watch acclaimed sculptors carve out breathtaking creations from just a block of ice.
Tickets: Day pass for adults – USD 16, Youth – USD 8, and kids under 6 years – Free. If you plan to spend more than a day, then taking a seasonal pass is the favorable choice. The Season Pass for Adults costs USD 25, while the Season Pass for Youth costs USD 15.
Sapporo Snow Festival, Japan
Where: Sapporo, Japan
When: Wednesday, 4 February 2026 to Wednesday, 11 February 2026
This snow festival in Japan has a rich history, as it began in 1950 with snowball fights and a snow sculpture exhibition. Over the years, its popularity and size have increased manifold.
As of today, there are three sites at the Sapporo Snow Festivals for enthusiastic visitors to enjoy.
- Odori Site – 1.5 km long leading site, including a large ice skating rink, many small and large snow sculptures
- Susukino site: Ice sculpture show and contest illuminated at night.
- Tsudome site – Huge dome with attractions for kids, large snow slides, snow rafting activities
The Ice sculpture contest gets artists from all across the world who display some excellent skills in bringing ice sculptures to life.
Apart from the icy stuff, there is a food park where authentic Japanese cuisine can be savored.
Ice Moscow Festival, Russia

Russia is a winter paradise. From Northern lights to icy parks, there is so much to see. Amidst the cold, many parts turn into the stage for magical ice creations. The Ice Moscow Festival is the highlight of Russia, featuring jaw-dropping ice-carving creations.
Many iconic Russian landmarks are brought to life and lit through the simple ice blocks. Just simple ice blocks, in the hands of the sculptors, create magic.
More than 100 sculptures, including significant ice replicas of the Moscow Kremlin and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, and Yuri Gagarin, are on display.
International Ice Sculpture Festival in Jelgava, Latvia
Where: Jelgava, Latvia
When: 7 February 2026 to 8 February 2026
One of the top Ice festivals in the Baltic and around the world takes place in Jelgava, Latvia. The Ice Festival began modestly in 1998 and has grown into an international event.
Artists from countries like Russia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Finland, and many others put their hearts and souls into creating masterpieces from humble blocks of ice.
Besides Ice sculptures, there are many cultural events and fireworks to enjoy.
Tickets: EUR 5 (if booked in advance), while EUR 7 at the event. The family ticket is EUR 10 in advance and EUR 15 at the event.
Ice on Whyte Festival, Canada
Where: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Ice on Whyte is one of the three Ice carving competitions held in Canada. This is one festival that is not held outdoors but in temperature-controlled tents. It helps the creations to stay protected from the environment. Artists make the Ice sculptures from around the world – Japan, the Netherlands, the USA, Iraq, Latvia, Russia, and many more.
The best part is that there are Ice carving lessons where you can try your hand at this artistic skill. The lessons are for both adults and kids.
Besides the competition, there are many fun games and events to enjoy.

Valloire International Ice & Snow Sculpture Competition, France

Valloire is truly a winter enthusiast destination with not only one but two festivals – the Valloire Ice Sculpture competition and the Valloire Snow Sculpture competition.
In its 38th year, this famous Snow festival is a great event not only in France but across the world. There is even a ballot for the public to choose the best snow sculpture.
Valloire is a ski resort town with spectacular backdrops of snow-studded mountains.
Valloire also holds the International Ice Sculpture Competition, which began in 1991 and attracts sculptors from around the world. The roads are lined with sculptures for the visitors to view and enjoy the creativity. At night, the sculptures are illuminated, making them mesmerizing to view.
The festival ends with a spectacular fireworks display and a torchlight parade.

Quebec Winter Carnival, Canada
Where: Quebec, Canada
When: Friday, 6 February 2026 to Sunday, 15 February 2026
Come February, Quebec turns into a Winter Wonderland, with streets across the city serving as venues for activities.
Can you believe the Quebec Winter Carnival is in its 67th year? The Winter capital of the world had started the tradition of beating the harsh winter with festivities.
The streets are filled with 100 ice and snow sculptures carved by the best artists from across the world. The highlight of the festival is the Ice Palace.

Lititz Fire and Ice Festival, USA
Where: Lititz, Pennsylvania, USA
When: 13 February 2026 to 22 February 2026
The small town of Lititz, PA, turns into a happening place in the winter with the Fire and Ice Festival. The festival starts on Friday evening with a downtown block party, and the artists begin to carve the ice blocks into magnificent creations.
Saturday is a fun day with a kids’ carnival featuring lots of games, music, and activities. Must be. Wondering what ” Fire in the name ” is for? Fire refers to the Chili cook-off on Saturday, where you can taste different chili recipes.
Main Street and other downtown streets are lined with beautiful ice sculptures. Kids especially enjoy the fire trucks, cars, guitars, and of course, the ice throne to sit and pose on. It is great to walk down the street with a cup of hot chocolate.
