Visa for India
You will most likely need a visa to visit India. If you hold a passport from one of the countries that are eligible to avail an e-visa, you can apply for an e-tourist visa online a minimum of 4 days in advance of the date of arrival. The e-tourist visa can be for a month or a year, or five years.
Best Time to Visit Rajasthan
The best time to visit Rajasthan is in winter (October to February) because that’s when the weather is perfect. Clearly, this is also the busiest time for tourism (December and January being the busiest), which brings in huge crowds and high rates.
If you plan around this time, booking at least three months in advance is recommended to get the best pick of flights and hotels at reasonable rates.
If you despise crowds and want hassle-free exploration, late October or early November can be the best bet. It’s when the weather is gradually cooling down (afternoons are hot, so you need to start early) and not many tourists have yet arrived. Plus, you might get to witness one of the most beautiful festivals around the world – Diwali.
How to Get to Rajasthan
The Indian capital of Delhi serves as the most convenient entry into Rajasthan. I’d suggest booking your international flights in and out of Delhi.
It’s best to keep Jaipur (just about 4 4-hour drive or train journey from Delhi) or Udaipur (about 1 hour 10 minutes flight away from Delhi) as your entry point into Rajasthan to kick off your trip. Jaipur and Udaipur because of good connectivity.
Indigo, SpiceJet, Air Asia, Vistara, and Air India have regular flights to Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur. We use and trust Skyscanner for all flight bookings. It lets us compare prices and find the best flight deals.
Consider traveling by train (at least one way if you have time) for an authentic Indian travel experience. There are many express trains like the Ajmer Shatabdi Express and the Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express between Delhi and Jaipur. You can search for and book your train tickets via 12Go.
In our Rajasthan 2-week itinerary, we are starting our Rajasthan trip in Udaipur (a quick flight from Delhi to Udaipur) and ending in Jaipur (you can drive or fly from Jaipur to Delhi to catch a flight back to your home country). You can do it in reverse, too, meaning start in Jaipur and end in Udaipur.
How to Get Around Rajasthan
The best way to get around Rajasthan is by car with a driver. It’s hassle-free and the fastest way to move from one city to another. Plus, a road trip gives you a glimpse of rural life (a real Rajasthan) between cities, and you get the flexibility to stop by and explore the places on the way. The roads in Rajasthan are in good condition and promise a smooth ride.
It’s a good idea to fly to Udaipur from Delhi and start your tour from there. Then drive to Jodhpur from Udaipur while exploring Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur en route, and then move to Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Pushkar, and end in Jaipur, from where you can catch a flight or a train back to Delhi. Rajasthan Itinerary: 2 Days in Jodhpur
Jodhpur is one of my favorite cities in Rajasthan. Getting lost in a maze of streets lined with bright blue-washed houses (the reason it’s also known as the Blue City), soaking up the beauty of mighty Mehrangarh Fort, listening to the stories of the past while wandering the ruins of Mandore, and stuffing your face with delish street food – Jodhpur has a vibe that charms every one.

Day 5 brings you one of the most beautiful temples in the world – Ranakpur Jain Temple. It also happens to be one of the holiest sites in Jainism. Intricately hand-carved from amber stone, the temple boasts 1,444 pillars, each narrating a different story. Yes, each pillar is carved exclusively. No two pillars are the same!
Though the temple is open from 6:30 am to 8 pm, the tourists are only allowed between 12 pm to 5 pm. So, plan accordingly. Ranakpur is around 34 km (1 hour 10 minutes) from Kumbhalgarh.
Once you are done exploring Ranakpur Jain Temple, proceed to Jodhpur. It’s about a 3-hour (155 km) drive from Ranakpur to Jodhpur. You’ll reach Jodhpur in the evening, so it’s best to book a hotel in the center of the city (old town) so you can at least explore the markets of Jodhpur late in the evening and gorge on the delicious street food Jodhpur is famous for.
