How to get there: The best way to reach Alibaug is to take a ferry from Gateway of India, Mumbai. It is a short 45 minutes boat ride away with beautiful views of the Arabian sea. However, ferries are closed during monsoon (June to September) due to rough seas and the journey to Alibaug is possible only by road which takes a little over 3 hours.

How to get there: To get to Agonda beach from Goa airport, you can get a taxi from right outside. Although most accommodations can organize a pickup.
Situated in South Goa, Agonda Beach is a golden crescent of powder-soft sand, where the pace slows down to the meditative sway of the palm trees, and where cows come to congregate at sunset. This is a far cry from the concrete jungles and party beaches elsewhere in Goa; although you will still easily find WiFi and Western Food.
If visiting Goa with kids, this is a perfect beach as it’s not too busy, it’s clean, and the surf is just right for boogie-boards (which most accommodations provide). Plus this stretch of coastline retains a rustic charm away from the big resorts. This is by far one of the best beaches in Goa.
For those who fancy peeling themselves away from the beach, take a fishing boat out to see the dolphins. This can be organized through your accommodation.

How to get there: To access the beach you’ll need to park in the village and walk through pretty gardens to reach the shoreline. There isn’t a buggy-friendly route.
Goa is perhaps better known for its party vibe than family-friendly beaches but this relaxed beach is a world away from the likes of Anjuna or Baga. Picturesque Mandrem beach is miles of beautiful, clean sand; perfect for little ones to run, dig, build and play in.
There is no lifeguard on duty but the gentle slope of the shoreline means the water stays shallow a long way out to sea and kids can enjoy jumping in the waves without ending up in deep water. There’s also a shallow creek separating the village from the beach which makes the perfect spot for kids to collect water for their sandy creations.
For more active families there is a good breeze in the afternoons for kitesurfing and there are kitesurfing and surf schools available to you.

How to get there: It is easily reached by cab, alternatively, the closest train station is Thivim, found 15 km away.
Pleasantly located in the northern region of Goa, Morjim Beach is distinctly known for its peaceful nature and tranquil atmosphere. How to get there: Varkala is a town on the outskirts of Thiruvantharam which is the nearest airport. Varkala is also connected by rail and the station is 3 km from the beach.
Unlike the overcrowded beaches of Kerala, Varkala beach is a breath of fresh air. What makes Varkala so special is that it is a black sand beach With tall cliffs overlooking the Arabian Sea. Also, there are natural springs and the water is considered to have medicinal properties, and taking a dip into it is considered to cure. Varkala also is a pilgrim destination visited by the disciples. It is one of the best places to visit in Kerala and must be added to your Kerala itinerary.
As you enter the parking area that also has a helipad, the views of the sea and beach at the bottom welcome you. There are stairs descending ahead from the parking to the beach. On the way from the parking, there are many small cafes and shops. The beach has lifeguards on duty and continuous patrolling by police making it very safe for families.
The waters are warm and great for swimming. Sit on the beach and just relax or watch the waves or take a stroll by the beach admiring the cliff-laden scenery. For adventure seekers, there are activities like surfing and parasailing. The surfboards can also be rented to use.

Kovalam Beach, Kerala

There is an International airport and railway station in Trivandrum which is connected very well to all major cities. The beach can be reached by taxi or car. Another cheaper alternative is to take an auto-rickshaw or the state-run buses.
Kovalam Beach is one of the best beaches in Kerala and one of the most popular Beaches in India. There are three crescent-shaped beaches with rocky formations making it special. It is thronged by tourists and locals alike. Since it gets crowded a lot, it is not a very clean beach. There are many luxury resorts that line up around this beach along with big rocky outcroppings that make it more beautiful.
The most popular activity is taking a ride on motorboats. There are many operators that will try to convince for a motorboat ride. How to get there: Cochin International Airport (90 km) is the nearest airport while Mararikulam Junction (3 km) is the nearest rail station to Marari Beach. You can hire a car or taxi from the airport to the beach. Or you can also opt for state buses from Alappuzha KSRTC Bus Stand and get a drop at Mararikulam Junction and take an autorickshaw to the beach.

How to get there: Located 20 km south of Rameshwaram, Dhanushkodi can be reached by hiring a Jeep suitable for driving on sand and through beach waters. Alternatively, you can reach by taking a cab from the nearest airport of Madurai, 167 km away, while Rameshwaram is the nearest railway station.
Known as the Ghost Town or the Abandoned Town, Dhanushkodi lies at the southern tip of Pamban Island, which is closest to Sri Lanka. Back in 1964, the town suffered severe damage from a cyclone, after which it was abandoned. This is one of the reasons for having an idyllic virgin beach. There are remains of the ruined city along Dhanushkodi Beach.
It feels as if you have the whole beach for yourself. Besides the tourists, a few shacks sell souvenirs and dry snacks, keeping it sparsely crowded.
The route from Rameshwaram to Dhanushkodi is an adventurous ride, with the latter stretch through sand and water. The views are just breathtaking as you ride on a thin strip of land with water on all sides.
Dhanushkodi holds a significant position in Hindu mythology. It is said that from this place, Lord Rama, with the help of Hanuman Ji, brother Lakshmana, and the army of monkeys, built a bridge called the ‘Ram Setu’ made of floating stones over the sea connecting to Sri Lanka to rescue his wife Sita.

How to get there: You can reach Diu via air or road. However, very few flights operate to Diu airport. Hence, the best way to get to Diu Island is either by bus or taxi. From major cities in Gujarat, you can hire a taxi or take a government/ private bus that flies to Diu Island. Once on the island, you can rent two-wheelers to get to the Nagoa beach, which is 7 kilometers west of Diu town.
Nagoa beach is a palm-fringed, shoe-shaped, white-sanded beach that encloses a cove of deep blue water. With low tidal waves and shallow waters, the beach is ideal for swimmers and hence preferred by families.

A paid boat ride through the backwaters will take you to the privately owned Paradise Beach, originally known as Chunnambar Beach. Unlike other beaches of Pondicherry, the sand here is white and soft. The beach is an extended portion positioned right at the mouth of the backwaters and the Bay of Bengal.
From delicious seafood to thatch umbrellas, restrooms, and shower rooms, and a number of recreational activities –Paradise Beach is a perfect retreat for families and kids. The beach authority has also employed a number of lifeguards to make sure that the guests are safe.

The pilgrimage town of Gokarna has no less than 6 beaches to choose from. Om Beach is, without a doubt, the best for families. The long stretch of palm-fringed sandy beach is the perfect place to either relax or be active. There are enough facilities like restaurants and boating to keep you and your kids occupied, but it is also large enough for there to be quiet places.
Om beach is also safe because it is one of the few beaches in Gokarna where there is a lifeguard present.

Nearby Attractions: Om beach is only one of the attractions in Gokarna. The little pilgrimage town has a number of important Hindu temples to visit. The other beaches in the area are just as scenic and some are so secluded that they can only be visited by boat or by foot.
There is an 8-kilometer hiking trail that connects all of Gokarna’s beaches with each other. This is not for the younger kids as the path includes climbing over rocky terrain. The views over the Arabian ocean are well worth it.
Where to stay near Om Beach: Om beach doesn’t have a lot of accommodation options. The best place to stay is Namaste Cafe.
Malpe Beach, Karnataka

How to get there: The easiest way to get to Malpe Beach is to get a cab or tuk-tuk from Udupi town which is only 6km away. The closest train station is the Udupi Railway Station and the airport is Mangalore International Airport.

How to get there: Murudeshwar is a coastal town that is extremely popular amongst devotees of Lord Shiva. Hence, the town is quite accessible by both rail and road. The nearest railway station is Murudeshwar station, and the nearest airport is Mangalore airport. From the station, you can hire an autorickshaw, and from the airport, a taxi to reach the Murudeshwar beach.
Murudeshwar beach is a super clean, crescent-shaped beach with a long stretch of shoreline. The water is relatively shallow, and even if you wade far in the water, it stays lapping at your shins. At the Murudeshwar beach, you could participate in various water activities like jet-ski, speedboat rides, banana boat rides, and water skiing. If you feel more adventurous, take a motorboat to Netrani Island (30 minutes), where you can snorkel and scuba dive.
Nearby Attractions: Apart from the Murudeshwar beach, you could visit the Murudeshwar temple, the 123-foot tall Lord Shiva statue, the 22-storeyed Gopuram, and the Murudeshwar caves.

Digha Beach situated in the city of Digha in West Bengal is a popular weekend destination for Kolkata residents.
How to get there: It is just a 4-hour drive from Kolkata. Trains and buses are also available to reach Digha. Trains take about 5-6 hours and buses about 5 hours.
Digha Beach is popular due to its huge, largely flat, quiet beach with brilliant sunrises and sunsets, plus places to see when the day gets hotter. It is best to avoid visiting during a festival time like Durga Puja due to droves of tourists. The ideal time to visit would be November to February when the weather is relatively cooler.
Get to the beach early in the morning to view the impressive sunrises and the ever-so-slow changes in sea color. Sunset is a good time to sit or walk on the flat sandy beach.
Nearby attractions include The ‘New Digha beach’ which has sprung up in the last few years about 2 kilometers from the old beach and there are opportunities for aquatic sports here.
Two other places of interest for families are Marine Aquarium and Amrabati Park. The aquarium has beautiful displays of lobsters, sea snakes, sea anemones, butterflyfishes, and corals. Amrabati Park has lovely floral gardens, a mini-lake, walking paths, and boat rides. This place is usually full of families with kids.

Puri Beach, Orissa

How to get there: Puri is well connected through Bhubaneswar airport, 62 km away & Puri station. Cabs & rickshaws are easily available from the airport & Puri station.
Puri beach in Orissa is perfect for families on a holiday And is one of the top beaches in India. Located in the holy town of Puri, on the Bay of Bengal, it is one of the safest beaches in India, and in terms of beauty, they are on par with the gorgeous beaches of Goa. There are many beaches in Puri- Swargadwar, Konark, Chandrabhaga, etc.
The main Puri beach has golden sands and is vibrant with an evening beach market. It is good for a relaxing morning walk. In the evenings, there are stalls on the beach for food -seafood & vegetarian street food. You will find families moving around- in the water & eating & shopping, while lifeguards watch over you. Kids can enjoy a horse ride or camel ride. You can buy souvenirs & handicrafts from the stalls or the market nearby.
If lucky, you could see sand art in the making too. If you want a smaller crowd, just move half a km away.
Puri also has a great variety of food. Do sample its delicacies like khichdi, dolma, Bengali sweets & chenna poda.

How to get there: Talsari sea beach is located 208 Km away from the capital of Odisha- Bhubaneswar, which is very well-connected to the rest of the country by road, railway, and air. The Biju Patnaik International Airport at Bhubaneswar and Balasore railway station is the closest drop point to Talsari sea beach. You can easily get a cab to the beach from these locations.
The sea beach got its name from the two words “Tala” which means Palm, and Sari/Sarani, which means row in Odia. As the name suggests, this sea beach is surrounded by Palm and tamarisk trees. The waves are not very turbulent but calm and peaceful. Being an offbeat virgin sea beach, this beach is perfect for families who want to spend some quality time with their loved ones away from the crowd. Because of less crowd, thousands of red crabs live on the sea beach, making it astounding for tourists.
Like any other sea beach, swimming is the most popular activity at Talsari sea beach. Apart from that, boat riding is another famous activity on the sea beach. Ramkrishna Beach in Vishakhapatnam is one of the cleanest and family-friendly beaches in south India.
Andhra Pradesh tourism offers activities like surfing and angling in the deep sea on fishing boats. Stunning beaches! Radhanagar is just picture perfect isn’t it? I remember going to an Indian beach in Goa and looking quite out of place lying down on the sand, as most of the other beach goers were fully clothed strollers. I do recall how vast the sands were and how fabulous the sunsets. Really good to have family friendly recommendations for our next visit.
