5 pm: Watch Kathakali Performance
It’s time for an unforgettable cultural experience – a Kathakali dance performance. Known for its dramatic, elaborate costumes and the intensely expressive storytelling through dance, witnessing this traditional Keralan art form is a must when in Kochi.
As the performance begins, you’ll be mesmerized by the vibrant colors and intricate makeup of the dancers. Kathakali is known for its detailed and vividly painted faces, which tell stories on their own. The dancers use their facial expressions, hand gestures, and body movements to narrate epic tales, often from ancient Indian mythology.
The music accompanying Kathakali is traditional and rhythmic, adding to the intensity of the performance. Passed down through generations, each gesture, expression, and costume piece in Kathakali has a significant meaning.
Kerala Kathakali Centre is the best venue in Kochi to witness Kathakali. For a complete Kathakali experience in Kochi, aim to be there by 5 pm.
